Since 1901, the Whitechapel Gallery has provided learning opportunities in what remains one of the most deprived areas of Europe .  In the 1970s, the Gallery pioneered artist residencies in schools; in the 1980s and 90s, the Gallery initiated joint commissions between practicing artists and young people.  These are models that have been adopted in the UK and internationally.

Today the Gallery continues to pilot new ways of working with children, young people and the local community, offering innovative ways to engage with art through workshops, artist residencies and special projects.

By supporting the Whitechapel Gallery Education Programme, you contribute to the vitality of local schools and the community and help foster the next generation of artists.
