What would you stand up for to make the world a better place?
What movements would you make to stay awake and survive?
Anton Mirto‘s The Army is a call to families and young people to be brave in an age that promotes fear, by working together and empowering each other.
Conceived in 2016 as a desire to stand up, stay awake and survive, The Army sees participants practice fearlessness and strength, through stylised marching drills and audible rhythmic breath.
Thursday 2 August: view performance piece at 6pm or 8pm
Take part in a free, empowering workshop for families and young people. Dates to be announced soon.
The Army workshops are open to 8-13 year olds accompanied by an adult.

‘Working under her own name and as former Co-Director of A2company, Anton Mirto has wrapped performers in tinfoil and buried them alive, created a sound installation of whispered apologies and a dance from people jolting to the pop of bubblewrap. At once playful and rigorous, her work is interested in the possibility of social change – and in thinking about the small actions that might build up to bring it about.‘ Run riot interview
Mirto has presented works at: Royal Opera House, ICA, LIFT, The Place, Tate Modern, TripSpace as part of Hayward Gallery’s ‘Mirror City’, Yard Theatre, Lillian Bayliss, (London), National Review of Live Art (Glasgow), Storey Gallery (Lancaster) & Yorkshire Dance; Internationally at Parc de La Vilette (Paris), Off Limits (Germany), City of Women (Ljubljana) Centre of Contemporary Culture, (Barcelona), Infecting The City (Cape Town), Fresh Paint Salon & Yaffo23, (Tel Aviv), Tenuta Dello Scompiglio (Tuscany) & Werkstatten und Kulturhaus, (Vienna).
