12.20pm – 12.50pm Laurence King
Critic and author of Ways of Being, James Cahill speaks about this new collection of interviews with artists. What if you could sit down with your favourite artist and ask them anything you liked – Life? Work? Inspiration? Based on new interviews and archival material from a huge roster of artists, Cahill’s latest book, Ways of Being: Advice for Artists by Artists, does exactly that.
1.00pm – 1.30pm Tara Books
The Indian publishers present two short films that explore how stories travel from orality to the written word. Produced by inhouse filmmaker Arun Wolf, they take you on a musical journey and trace the dialogue between the written and the oral, focussing on publications Sita’s Ramayana and Brer Rabbit Retold.
1.40pm – 2.10pm Faceless Artist Fanzine
Faceless Artist Fanzine founder Anders Nygaard presents a short talk about the zine, which is based on conversations with artists from the Norwegian Art Scene.
2.20pm – 2.50pm Valiz
How are the commons constituted in society? How do we shape the reality of our living together via the commons? What strategies and aesthetics do artistic commoners adopt? Join Astrid Vorstermans publisher from Valiz to discuss the new publication Commonism – A New Aesthetics Of The Real.
3.00pm – 3.30pm Summer Forest X Ju Hee
Ju Hee Hong will discuss how crowdfunding contributes to new independent publishing scenes in the digital era, with a focus on participatory publishing process alongside current crowdfunded books.
3.40pm – 4.10pm Samuel Domínguez
Artist Samuel Domínguez delivers a talk about the fanzine Paint Bucket, conceived as a compilation of a series of drawings, ideas and annotations of the artist’s creative process. Paint Bucket can be read as the artist’s personal notebook, which after being organized in a zine, can also be understood as a visual essay about an artist’s proceedings in the digital era.
4.20pm – 4.50pm Maggie Jennings
Artist Maggie Jennings reads from ‘Studio Sink Poetry’ a collection of poems in collaboration with Christina Niederberger, taking inspiration from the Kitchen Sink Painters of the 1950’s. Wittily spinning poems about studio occurrences, which are in turn explored through the written word, design practice and the act of printing, creating an almost spontaneous example of visual poetry.
