On Monday 18 November 2019, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Whitechapel Gallery’s 2009 expansion into the Whitechapel Library and the extraordinary development in exhibitions, education activity and programming that has followed in the ten years since. The event also launched our Towards Tomorrow campaign to help us secure our future for the next decade and beyond.

The evening showcased the Gallery’s extraordinary range of activity through performances, artist talks, spotlight tours and installations. Guests immersed themselves in Peter Liversidge’s Expanded Notes (Sign Paintings for Whitechapel Gallery) (2019), a one-night-only installation of hundreds of posters and flags related to the Gallery’s history. They also had the chance to participate in talks by Whitechapel alumni artists Larry Achiampong, Helen Cammock, Goshka Macuga and John Stezaker; a Youth Forum Takeover of our Creative Studio with artists Rosie Ridgway and Ben White; displays of our Artist Editions, Publications and Archive materials; screenings of films commissioned through our Eduation programme; Fluxus performances throughout the building; and curator-led tours and readings in our current exhibitions.

Thanks to all who joined in the celebrations!
