London Open Test - Whitechapel Gallery

Thank you for your interest in applying for The London Open 2021. We understand that 2020 has been a difficult year for artists. In recognition of this, once you pay your application fee, you will automatically receive a Whitechapel Gallery artist membership for a year. Benefits include: unlimited entries for you and a friend to visit all our free and paying exhibitions, invitations to openings and special events, 50% off and priority bookings for ticketed events for you and a friend, 10% off at the café, bookshop and on limited edition artworks. The submission fee is £30 per entrant, which goes towards administration costs. It is not possible to apply without paying this fee, which is non-refundable. Applications for The London Open 2021 close at midnight on Sunday 6 December, 2020. Please note, once you start the application process you will not be able to save your application mid-way through.

Selected artists must live and/or work in the London Boroughs. These are: Barking and Dagenham, Barnet, Bexley, Brent, Bromley, Camden, City of London, City of Westminster, Croydon, Ealing, Enfield, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Kingston upon Thames, Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton, Newham, Redbridge, Richmond upon Thames, Southwark, Sutton, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Wandsworth.

Supplementary Material – Applicants must supply a one page A4 CV pdf. set in minimum type font 10. Should you wish, you may also supply a statement of 250 words (1600 characters max.) in the text field provided. Please do not send additional catalogues, photographs or other material in support of your application to the gallery as it cannot be reviewed by the selectors. It is also not possible to return any such materials to you.

Submission price

You can submit up to 5 examples of your practice. This can be in the form of images or links to video or audio works, or a combination of both (e.g. 3 images, 2 video or audio links). Your work will be selected by the visual material submitted.
Please submit dimensions in centimeters and write this at the end, for example, 20 x 20 cm.
