Reading is Fundamental is all about celebrating children’s books with LGBTQAI+ themes and children’s books by BIPOC authors.

Listen to a storytelling session by performer, theatre-maker and activist Jack Wakely, socialise with other families and spend some time exploring our library of children’s books all within the inspiring surroundings of Whitechapel Gallery’s exhibitions.

About Jack Wakely

Jack is a performer and theatre-maker and an advocate for recognising gender diversity, invisible disabilities and neurodiversity within the arts. Jack is co-founder of Silent Faces, a company that makes brave, ridiculous, unique and challenging devised theatre in the form of physical, political fooling. They also perform regularly as part of The Rosemary Branch’s resident ensemble Degenerate Fox AKA the London Neo-Futurists. Their show, The Dirty Thirty, is a fortnightly outing of thirty original plays, performed in one hour.
