Transport
– To the best of our knowledge, there are no planned disruptions to local transport on the date of the event.
– Our nearest train station – Aldgate East Underground (1 min walk) is not wheelchair accessible. The closest wheelchair accessible stations are Whitechapel (15 min walk), Shoreditch High Street (15 min walk) or Liverpool Street (15 min walk).
– Free parking for Blue Badge holders is available at the top of Osborn Street in the pay and display booths for an unlimited period. Spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.
Join us for an evening of music, workshops, and exploration programmed by Whitechapel Gallery’s youth collective Duchamp & Sons. Inspired by their current exhibition Escape the Slick, which asks questions about access to public space whilst embracing comfort and self-expression, you can expect an evening of good vibes, exploration, and moments to connect to others.
18.30 – 21:00 – Food, Drinks and Socialising in the Creative Studio
18:30 – 19:15 – Panel Discussion on being a young creative with Tadi the Great, James Jones-Smith, and marojiyam in the Study Studio
19:00 – 19:40 – Performances & Readings by young creatives in Escape the Slick, followed by an Open Mic. Performers include Kimberly Johnson, Jordan Minga, Lynn Ha, Harriet Ekpo, Aliya Abdi, Yulin Huang and Natasha Brown.
19:30 – 21:00 – Collage Making in the Study Studio
20:00 – 21:00 – Closing DJ set by Tadi The Great in the Creative Studio
Duchamp & Sons is a collective of 15-24 year olds from across London who meet regularly to experiment with art, curate exhibitions and events, and share space for food and conversation.
Escape the Slick: Youth Takeover has been collaboratively curated by D&S Members Amir, Cartier, Constança, Danielle, Elizabeth, Elliott, Emily, Erika, Freya, Georgie, Iarla, Jasmine D-C, Jasmine S-A, Jemila, Joshua, Josserose, Miranda, Ruth, Shannay, Shree, and Yulin.
Tadi the Great (@tadithegreat) is a Norwich/UK-based artist & DJ of Zimbabwean origin. His journey into djing started with the sole intention enhance his production, but now this has become one of his main avenues of self-expression. Since then, he has opened up for Gilles Peterson, Charlie Dark, Shy One, GZA (Wu-Tang) & many more, forever bringing a melting pot of soulful, percussive and unpredictable sonics. Recently, he launched Astral Projections (@astralproj.club), his club night which shares the same approach of running free with creativity.
