Our collection contains posters from the beginning of the Gallery’s history, 1901. The early ones published before 1948 are kept and catalogued with the Early Records. Later Posters, from 1948 up to 1996 are fully catalogued, but the latest records are only partially available.
The Posters reflect the different styles of British Design and can be useful for research on social and art history. The Whitechapel posters also show the history of the gallery branding, including such names as Richard Hollis (1969-1984), Peter Saville (1985-1989) and Kate Stephens (1989-2003).
