A week of experimenting with different artforms, featuring guest workshops by artists taking part in The London Open 2022 Sandi Hudson-Francis, Abbas Zahedi, and William Cobbing.
The 2022 Contemporary Art Week began with a group of young artists coming together to share their own experiences of contemporary art, and to learn more about pathways in the art world through a workshop with staff from across Whitechapel Gallery.
Day two of the programme was led by filmmaker Sandi Hudson-Francis and saw the young artists develop faceless moving portraits of one another, by creating short films inspired by intimate conversations and experiments with breaking away from traditional ‘portraiture’.
William Cobbing led the third day of the programme, inviting the group to play with sculpture and to create clay tablets drawn from messages they found in their texts and DMs.
The final day saw Abbas Zahedi share his practice with the group and to invite them to consider what their own creative processes looked like. The day culminated in one of Abbas Zahedi’s signature Open Mic sessions where the group embraced immaterial art making and celebrated their own artistic practices.
