Whitechapel Gallery presents Galleries in the Groove: Three Visionary Dealers, 1960s- 80s, an archival exhibition exploring the revolutionary work of commercial galleries in three different cities.
Whitechapel Gallery is pleased to announce that Tracey Emin (b. 1963, UK) is the ninth artist to receive the prestigious annual Art Icon award. On Tuesday 22 March 2022, the award will be presented at gala celebration hosted by Iwona Blazwick OBE (Director, Whitechapel Gallery).
The Whitechapel Gallery presents a 100-year survey of the studio through the work of artists and image-makers from around the world. Whether it be an abandoned factory, an attic or a kitchen table, it is the artist’s studio where the great art of our time is conceived and created. In this multi-media exhibition, the wide-ranging possibilities and significance of these crucibles of creativity take centre stage and new art histories around the modern studio emerge through striking juxtapositions of under-recognised artists with celebrated figures in Western art history.
Joy Gregory with Whitechapel Gallery has won the Freelands Award 2023. This award enables organisations to present an exhibition by a mid-career female-identifying artist who may not yet have received the acclaim or public recognition that her work deserves.

16 May 2022 – Whitechapel Gallery is delighted to announce that curator and writer, Gilane Tawadros, has been appointed the new Director of Whitechapel Gallery, London. Currently Chief Executive of DACS, a not-for-profit visual artists' rights management organisation, and previously founding Director of the Institute of International Visual Arts (Iniva), Tawadros will take up her post in October 2022.
