Following acclaimed presentations at both Spike Island (Bristol) and Nottingham Contemporary (Nottingham), Whitechapel Gallery brings this major survey exhibition of the late British multi-media artist Donald Rodney to London.
The exhibition marks the collective’s 15-year anniversary, and with it a generation of artistic experimentation during a period of unprecedented pressure on arts education, funding, and young people.
Whitechapel Gallery announces exhibition programme for 2024-2025, showcasing Donald Rodney, Hamad Butt, Joy Gregory and more.
The prestigious Art Icon award, now in its twelfth year, celebrates the work of an artist deemed to have made a profound contribution to the artistic landscape. The 2025 award will be presented to the Colombian artist, Doris Salcedo.
16 May 2022 – Whitechapel Gallery is delighted to announce that curator and writer, Gilane Tawadros, has been appointed the new Director of Whitechapel Gallery, London. Currently Chief Executive of DACS, a not-for-profit visual artists' rights management organisation, and previously founding Director of the Institute of International Visual Arts (Iniva), Tawadros will take up her post in October 2022.
Iwona Blazwick has announced that after twenty years at the helm she will be stepping down in April 2022. Blazwick will continue to work as an independent curator both with the Gallery into 2023, and on a wide range of international projects.
We are pleased to announce the recipient of the Asymmetry Curatorial Fellowship at Whitechapel Gallery, London. Zoe Diao, a Chinese scholar and curator currently based in New York, has been awarded the six-month Fellowship, which begins on 20 September 2021.
