Project

Virtual Studio Visits is a programme curated and hosted by Whitechapel Gallery’s youth collective, Duchamp & Sons, inviting artists across the globe to share their creative workspaces and practices. Each visit is framed around a specific theme of interest to the group such as community, sustainability and the environment, music, wellbeing, identity and representation.

These free events are open to all and will take place on Zoom. Booking is required.

Please read our Participation Guidelines before registering.

Past visits

Wed 21 April, 5-6:30pm: Tobi Alexandra Falade

Tobi creates oil paintings that explore ideas of home, migration and heritage. Moving from Nigeria to England aged seven, she reflects on her dual Nigerian-British identities, combining imagery from family albums and personal photographs to construct new narratives. She is
the co-founder of Platform Black, a community that highlights the work of black creatives.

Wed 5 May, 5-6.30pm: Nabihah Iqbal

Nabihah is a musician, producer, DJ and broadcaster from London. Her debut album, ‘Weighing of the Heart’ was released in 2017 and she is currently an artist-in-residence at Somerset House, writing and recording her second album. She explores musical traditions and cultures of different countries on her shows at NTS Radio and BBC Radio 6 Music.

Wed 19 May, 5 – 6:30pm: Lucy Orta

Lucy is an artist whose work addresses social and ecological challenges through making and collaboration. She uses a wide range of media including drawing, sculpture and performance to visualise relationships between the body and our natural and urban environments. Since 2005, she has collaborated with the artist Jorge Orta to co-author Lucy+Jorge Orta. Their long-term projects investigate global food chains, water scarcity and pollution and the effects of climate change and migration.

Wed 26 May, 5 – 6:30pm: Rory Pilgrim

Rory works across film, sound, songwriting and live performance. Centered on emancipatory concerns, Rory challenges the nature of how we come together, speak, listen and strive for social change through sharing and voicing personal experience. Rory’s work creates connections between activism, spirituality, music and how we form community.
