An evening of film, photography and music on International Migrants Day, the UN’s annual day to recognise the contributions, rights and roles of migrants around the world.
Featuring a screening of Michael Winterbottom’s award-winning feature In This World (2002) introduced by screenwriter Tony Grisoni, a presentation of Prix Pictet shortlisted photographer Gideon Mendel’s recent migrant portraits, and a live performance by the 50 strong Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir.

In This World (2002) is a British docudrama following two young Afghan refugees, Jamal Udin Torabi and Enayatullah, as they leave a refugee camp in Pakistan for a better life in London. Since their journey is illegal, it is fraught with danger, and they must use back-channels, bribes, and smugglers to achieve their goal.
The film won the Golden Bear prize at the 2003 Berlin International Film Festival.
Tony Grisoni is an award-winning screenwriter and director. His many credits include Queen of Hearts, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Unloved, Red Riding and Southcliffe .

Gideon Mendel is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading contemporary photographers. He was shortlisted for the Prix Pictet 2015 for his ongoing Drowning World project.

The Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir was established in 2013 as an open-access adult community choir, providing an opportunity for singers of all abilities to come together and sing songs of the sea.
