For the final event as Whitechapel Gallery Writer in Residence, Caroline Bergvall has collaborated with musician Adam Parkinson to invite producers and DJs to spin, remix and manipulate poetry from Bergvall’s archive of sound poetry, spoken word and performance poetry, as well as her own readings. Over the course of the evening four radical and emerging DJs accept the challenge: Manni Dee is a rising star of techno who produces percussion-led, noise-imbued rituals; Mariam Rezaei draws on hip hop turntablism along with contemporary composition and free improvisation; Shelley Parker takes the structures of techno and fills them out with an abstract sound palate, creating blocks of sound and rhythm; and Adam Parkinson creates glitchy, sample driven music on homemade synths, reconfiguring musical ‘detritus’ into new forms.
Drinks kindly supported by The Royal Norwegian Embassy in London.
