Pick up a pencil, assemble a sculpture and dive into the imaginative potential of The Living Studio.
Running parallel to A Century of the Artist’s Studio: 1920-2020, Galleries 5 and 6 are transformed into a live making space filled with inspirational objects, books, artistic materials and prompts for activity. Visitors are invited to spend time in the space creating their own works of art, drawing on the creative energy of contemporary artists’ studios.
In their various guises, studios have held huge cultural significance around the world, from providing a refuge or laboratory, to offering a platform for public display and education. These spaces are now increasingly under threat, with rising rent prices, urban development projects and diminishing resources in schools and colleges. The Living Studio highlights the crucial importance of spaces dedicated to creative play and exploration, and offers an inspirational escape for artists of all ages.
Look out for workshops, talks and other events in the galleries throughout the season.
