7 October - 30 October
An ancient tradition that has proved itself timeless and vital, Portraiture and the Artist’s obsession with capturing human likeness is still relevant.
This October BSMT will be opening ‘Alter Ego‘, an exhibition of Urban and Contemporary portraiture showcasing artists who work predominantly with this style, but through their practice retake its principles through a modern lens.
Portraits can tell us how we see people beyond what they look like, they can also capture an idea of a person or what they stand for. ‘Alter Ego’ is an opportunity to examine what lies beneath this very classic genre which, for decades, represented an emerging bourgeoisie but has transitioned to a much wider representation of social, economic, gender and political ideas.
‘Alter Ego’ will span across Graffiti, illustration, string art and oil painting and will feature the work of: Alexander Chappel, Ange Bell, Angela Ho, Belin, Ben Wakeling, Caryn Koh, Edwin, Guy Denning, Jose Luis Cena, Joseph Loughborough, KMG, Pang, Panik Perspicere, Stephen Anthony Davids & Sweet Toof
