Writer in Residence

Since 2009, Whitechapel Gallery has invited a series of writers and artists to take up the position of Writer in Residence.

The residency programme is an opportunity to collaborate with someone for whom writing is a central element of their work. It features discussions, performances and interventions, considering how writing is experienced through the lens of contemporary art.

Whitechapel Gallery Writer in Residence from January 2024 is Daniella Valz Gen.

The Gallery has now introduced a Young Writer in Residence Programme, supporting new writers aged 18-24.
