Encompassing video, audio, sculpture, drawing and text Heather Phillipson’s work is rooted just as firmly in the written and spoken word as it is in the colour and forms of her vibrant displays. For her residency, the London-based artist and writer explored how the language that inscribes her practice becomes visible, whether through the site of an event or the space of the website.
Heather Phillipson works across video, sculpture, music, drawing, text and live events. In 2015, Phillipson will presented solo projects at the Istanbul Biennial, Performa New York, Sheffield Doc Fest, Opening Times (otdac.org), Schirn Frankfurt, and will be artist in residence at Wysing Arts Centre.
Recent solo exhibitions include: Bunker259, New York; Dundee Contemporary Arts; Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool; BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead; and a video commission for Random Acts, Channel 4 television. Recent events include: Assembly, Tate Britain; the flavour of cooling enormities, Serpentine Gallery; Nuovo Monde, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, and BOG-STANDARD REFRESHER, a live music event at the ICA, London. Phillipson is also an award-winning poet with publications by Faber and Faber, Bloodaxe and Penned in the Margins, and was named a Next Generation Poet in 2014.
