For two weeks in Summer 2009, Duchamp and Sons worked with artist Faisal Abdu’Allah to explore themes of identity, culture and local history. Working as an artist collective named Lifetime, individuals brought their own experiences and skills to the project – creative writing, music, design and management – as well as experimenting with street and studio photography.
As the collective’s work developed over the course of the project, the idea of time emerged as a recurring theme and several works were created, each depicting and exploring various elements and aspects of time.
This work was presented in TimeKeeping, an exhibition exploring the group’s different interpretations of time through sound and imagery. Exploring the fluid and fragile nature of time and our inability to freeze it, despite our attempts at capturing fleeting moments through photography, the work represents individuals’ journeys through life.
